No data communication between asset controller and an AIR-TAG.
It is possible for an AIR-TAG to obtain data from a compressor via a serial connection (RS485, Airbus485 protocol or ModbusRTU protocol). If your AIR-TAG is set-up for a data communication, but there is no data being displayed on the Aircloud platform, below steps can be followed to trouble shoot the installation.
How can I see if a valid ModbusRTU connection has been established?
- Reboot the AIR-TAG
- Log into the Aircloud platform
- Locate the -TAG
- Navigate to the 'events' tab
- Look for the 'Modbus RTU : communication lost' event.
There is NO valid connection when there is an unresolved 'Modbus RTU : communication lost' event as shown below:
Hardware
A connection between AIR-TAG terminal X18 and the asset controller communications terminal is to be established.
- Check the polarity of the connection.
- Connect AIR-TAG X18: C2-L1 to asset controller L1, L1+, A or A+.
- Connect AIR-TAG X18: C2-L2 to asset controller L2, L2+, B or B+.
- Connect AIR-TAG X18: C2-SC via the shield of the cable to the earth / GND of the asset controller.
- Make sure the cable is routed away from high power cables, switching gear, VSD/VFD units or other sources of electrical interference.
Software / Configuration
To establish a connection, both the AIR-TAG and asset controller's configuration have to be in sync. When ordering an AIR-TAG, a form is to be filled in to collect the below data. Ensure the given data is consistent with the actual asset controller configuration.
- RS485 protocol:
- Number of data bits, stop bit, baudrate, parity, Protocol language (=Modbus RTU in most cases)
- Asset controller Address
- Asset controller type
- (Software version)
When the hardware connection has been checked, and you have confirmed that the current asset controller configuration is conform to the given information at the time of ordering the AIR-TAG, but there is still no valid connection, please create a support ticket that lists all the above information.
